"Here's a song by a gay guy!"

Seriously, people: Is there any human being who could watch Brian from Family Guy go back to 1984* and serenade Peter and Lois' date with Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up", all of which parodies "Back to the Future" and not be happy? No.

Science has proven time and time again that such a video is incapable of leaving someone unhappy. At least fourteen of our chromosome pairs are in place solely to ensure that we can get the full happiness experience from this video. Also, science has shown that this video lowers cholesterol, burns calories, retroactively reverses hypoglycemic episodes, and makes pedophiles reconsider their stance on sexuality.

Isaiah 55:11 (in the King James Version) reads "So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." What most Biblical scholars fail to realize is that there was an addendum to this verse, which reads as follows: "And so shall My video of Brian serenading the country club dance in Quahog in 1984 with 'Never Gonna Give You Up': it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall make everyone really happy."

Those who would detract from the loving kindness of this video would have you believe that several human beings over the course of history hated this video, and were unhappy after seeing it: Hitler, Janice Dickerson, King Xerxes, and Paris Hilton. I'm not denying that these heartless hinds were unhappy after watching the video; I'm merely positing that they are not human beings. They are zombies. Evil zombies.

I could post all day about the wonders of this video, but I think I'll let it speak for itself:

*Yes, I know Peter went back to 1984 as well, but for the sake of the joke, shut up and watch the wonderful video.

Me and Alicia just watched that episode. Fucking hilarious. The fact that the Back to the Future movies are in my top 5 favorite movie sets of all time made it perfect.

I can't take credit for this video. I can take credit for all the rampant homosexuality littering my past like cigarette butts in a parking lot, but not for this video.

Wow! I remember Rick Astley, but I hadn't thought about any of his songs in a long time. I bought some of them back when I first moved to Huntsville, since they were popular on the radio at the time and I liked several of them. I don't even know if I bought his CDs or if I just bought a few singles.

chart debut, peak position, song name:

1987/12/19, #1 2 weeks, Never Gonna Give You Up
1988/04/16, #1 1 week, Together Forever
1988/07/16, #10, It Would Take A Strong, Strong Man
1988/12/17, #6, She Wants To Dance With Me
1991/02/16, #7, Cry For Help

I liked his stuff a lot until "She Wants To Dance With Me", which I found mediocre and tiring after being overplayed on the radio. Even worse was the constant playing of the boring "Cry For Help" a few years later.

"It Would Take A Strong, Strong Man" was my favorite single of the bunch, I think.

The album with his best hit singles was "Whenever You Need Somebody", which hit the album chart on 1988/01/23 and went to number 10 on that chart. "She Wants To Dance With Me", the first overplayed boring song, was on the "Hold Me In Your Arms" album, which hit the album chart 1989/01/28, peaking at #19. The boring "Cry For Help" was from the "Free" album, hitting the album chart 1991/03/31 and peaking at number 31.

I needs to rips me some 1988 Rick Astley if I have that early CD, which I'm sure I bought back then, but maybe not since I was a poor college student then and was more choosy.

Last night, I finally got around to ripping some Rick Astley and I had all 3 of his popular albums, the last of which I got for $1 at Sunburst used (the one with Cry For Help on it). I ripped all the hits that hit the Billboard chart, but for some reason, iTunes keeps choosing "Ain't Too Proud To Beg", his remake of the old Motown hit by the Temptations. If I hear it again, I might just delete that one off the laptop.
